Dirt Quake V #9

This year my good friend Zoran from the Rusty Gold Motorshop joined the Dutch team.  :) This was his first time on the dirt, firts race and first dirt track experience and he had a blast! :) We shared a spot in the pit. He was riding his XS650 bored up to 800cc with a 23" xl500 rim upfront.

The day before we left I painted my leather jacket and Zoran's new DMD moto3 replica helmet. And, we both had sponsored Rev'it! Monster 2 gloves, thanks a lot Rev'it!

Zoran was riding in the Chopper class and I was riding in the Inappropriate Road Bike class. Here are some picture of my training session.

During the training the track was still half wet. This was the first time for me on a wet track and I soon noticed that I did not have a lot of confidence on this slippery track... I did not pass anyone during the training... Was I to nervous to race because of last years crash, or was it just the track?

Dirt Quake 5 - inappropriate Road Bike Class - Final

Dirt Quake V was, again, super rad! Great crowd, awesome bikes and riders, fantastic weather and top notch atmosphere all around the event.

Gary Sideburn put me and my GR650 in the Inappropriate Road Bike Class this year, I don't know why but thanks anyhow Gary! But to be honest, my bike was not very inappropriate compared to the rest of the grid, haha.

We had 30 riders in our class. 3 groups of 10 riders that did 2 heats. The first heat I finished 3rd in my group and in the second heat I finished 2nd so I qualified for the final...! Rad! As you can see I had a very bad start in the final, falling back to the end of the grid, and half way trough the race I had some trouble passing the Yamaha T-Max... Yes a giant T-max motor scooter, ha! In the end I finished 4th. Not too bad...! Glad I did not brake any bones this year, hahaha!

Thank you so much Martin for riding us again to King's Lynn and for helping me built this GR650 Town Smoker! Zoran from the Rusty Gold Motorshop joined us this year and also finished 4th in the chopper class on his XS650! Thank you Rev'it! for sponsoring the Rev'it! Monster 2 gloves! Goal for next year is to race the GR650 in the street tracker class.

Dirt Quake 5 - Sideburn Magazine - Lennard Schuurmans

Sideburn Magazine asked me to design the new Dirt Quake 5 poster.
I may sound like a kid but this was a dream come true, haha! So cool, thanks dudes!!! :)))))

Info about Dirt Quake 5 from the Sideburn Blog:

Due to reasons beyond our control we have to change the date of Dirt Quake. The original date was 8-9 July. It is now
15-16 July
It's still at the Adrian Flux Arena, King's Lynn. Very sorry if this causes any grief for people, but there was nothing we could do to make the original date work because of change in circumstances at the track. Fortunately they found us another date in their packed summer schedule.

The superb poster for this year's event was created by the Dutch master, long-time friend of Sideburn and a Dirt Quake racer himself, Mr Lennard Schuurmans.

Tickets will go on sale in February. Race entries open in late-April. Keep an eye on the blog for details.

We're delighted to say Bikesure, motorcycle insurance specialists, have come back on board as the title sponsor and we have a new sponsor, Motone - a supplier of machine bolt-on parts for custom, street tracker or cafe racer.

If you'd like to sponsor Dirt Quake, please email me at dirt@sideburnmagazine.com for details.  G

Dirt Quake 4 - Inappropriate Road Bike - Final - Crash!

In the final I crashed in the last corner... Shit! Broke my collarbone and top rib and missed one hell of a party later that night. I spend the night in the hospital. I think I was going to fast in the corner and hit the teenage mutant ninja turtle a.k.a. Hubert Bastie.

This is what he said: "Im happy you're ok. Yes you hit me, my leg was locked between your frame and your fork... I saw you crash right after. But damn !! Your were fast "

My brother was filming it from the start. Check the final here:
